About the Art Therapist
I am an Art Psychotherapist registered with the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT), The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) that monitor and regulate caring professions such as Art Therapy; and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and ACTO, the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online.
I have been working with both children and adults since 2014. I have worked in a school with children, an inpatient rehabilitation centre with veterans and an NHS community service for adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
I have extensive experience working with vulnerable adults in the community with complex mental health problems, and with people with mild to profound Learning Disabilities, Autism and Acquired Brain Injury.
My special interest is trauma-informed care and the treatment of trauma through Art Psychotherapy. I am also CATT (Children Accelared Trauma Technique) trained an evidence-based trauma-focused CBT technique to treat PTSD and CPTSD in children. The technique can also be adapted and used in the treatment of PTSD and CPTSD in adults.
I currently provide group and individual Art Therapy online. As schools are open, I am available for face-to-face work with children and adolescents.
Who might I work with?
- Children and adolescents
The Art Therapist as Artist and Researcher
I am also an artist and researcher with a background in theatre and performance. I am originally a women’s pattern cutter and dressmaker with extensive experience working in theatrical costume design and construction.
In my art practice, I use a wide variety of visual art media and textiles to create my images. I enjoy painting and making, and I find calmness and peace, clarity and understanding throughout the process of making art.
I am also a passionate reader and learner. I enjoy extending my understanding and knowledge of my chosen field.
